Mr. May was a senior investigator/explosive technician with the Office of the State Fire Marshall of Maryland, where he served from 1974 until 1983. Prior to that, he served as a police officer and Police Chief in the state of Maryland. Since 1994, he has served as the Chief Judge - Orphans' Court for Frederick County. Reverend May is also the Pastor of the Pleasant View Church of Brethen.
His professional affiliations have included: Department Chairman of the Arson Mitigation Division at the National Fire Academy; consultant and Instructor to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (A.T.F.); and expert witness status for federal cases prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice.
His faculty appointments have included adjunct member and visiting lecturer at such schools as the University of Maryland, the West Virginia University and Shepherd College of West Virginia. He has also presided as Chairman of the training and education board of the International Association of Arson Investigators, which serves the law enforcement community throughout the world.
Mr. May has testified as an expert in the field of arson, explosives, and hazardous materials, as well as the fire prevention and code areas. He is qualified in District, Circuit and Federal courts.
Based on his extensive experience and expertise in law enforcement and criminal investigation, he founded his own private security company, serving Maryland and adjacent areas. His successful completion of many diverse cases has earned him recognition at the international level. He is now a consultant for foreign governments and corporations.
